Greenwich boasts many famous London landmarks and icons. It has a strong historical and maritime tradition.

The Old Royal Naval College is the great baroque masterpiece of British architecture and is set in landscaped grounds on the River Thames. It is at the very centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.

The National Maritime Museum is the largest maritime museum in the world. The collections comprise about 2.48 million items, many on loan to museums elsewhere in Britain. Special exhibitions are held throughout the year.

The maritime tradition continues with the Cutty Sark. She is the tea clipper that perhaps best epitomises the great age of sail and was, in her time in the late 1800s, the fastest clipper in the world.
The Royal Observatory is home to Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian Line and it is one of the most important historic scientific sites in the world. It was founded by Charles II in 1675 and is, by international decree, the official starting point for each new day, year and millennium (at the stroke of midnight GMT as measured from the Prime Meridian). Access to the Observatory is through Greenwich Park, one of the oldest enclosed royal parks in the U.K. From the top of the park there are fabulous views of the Thames, the Docklands and the Dome as well as the National Maritime Museum, the Queen’s House (on which The White House in Washington is based) and the Royal Naval College.

Greenwich also offers great shopping in its bustling streets and covered market and has historic pubs as well as restaurants catering to every taste.
